Dr. Bella Zimilevich, MD

Dermal fillers are a quick and cost-effective way to fill in hollowed areas, improve the appearance of small scars from acne or soften creases and wrinkles. They are sometimes referred to as “liquid  face lifts”. Dermal fillers are very safe when administered by a professional with experience. I want to help you achieve the results you have dreamed of and deserve”.

What are dermal fillers?

As we age, we lose much of the fullness of our skin that we enjoyed in our youth. Dermal fillers, as their name suggests, “fill in” areas of the skin, adding volume where volume is needed. They may be used to plump the lips, add volume under the cheek bones, fill in vertical lines above the upper lip, contour the chin or smooth acne scars.

How do they work?

There are many types of dermal fillers. One of the most popular and widely used is Juvederm, which is composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body in the soft connective tissues. When injected, hyaluronic acid plumps up the area it is injected into, adding volume.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes. Dermal fillers are approved by the FDA. Of course, it is wise to choose an experienced provider to inject your dermal filler to reduce possible side effects, such as bruising, redness and swelling. This is not to say that these effects will not occur in the hands of an experienced provider, but these effects can be minimized with good technique.

As an award-winning artist before I became a physician, I have a natural interest in beauty and the preservation of natural beauty. I get immense satisfaction from seeing my patients’ happiness with their improved appearances. Their satisfaction is the best advertisement for my skill as a physician providing dermal fillers and other appearance-enhancing treatments such as Botox. Choosing a provider who has the necessary skill, training and experience is crucial to achieving the results you dream about.

What can I expect at my appointment?

When you come in for your appointment, I will first spend some time talking about what you hope to achieve with your dermal filler treatment. I will then assess your skin and make a plan for treatment. I may make marks on your face to guide me in where to place the injections for best results. I will then clean the areas to be treated with an antiseptic agent. The actual injections take just seconds per site. When I have finished injecting all of the areas we planned, I will wash off any marks made and  give you an ice pack to apply to reduce any swelling or discomfort.

Will it hurt?

Some areas are more tender than others, such as the lips or areas around the lips. I use a topical anesthetic to numb the areas I plan to inject prior to the actual injections. Most patients do not find the procedure painful, but it may be slightly uncomfortable. I go out of my way to inform you about what I am doing before I do it to decrease any anxiety you may be feeling. In my experience, most clients do not find the procedure painful at all.

What should I expect after my treatment?

There may be slight redness or swelling at the site of the injections. Bruising may also occur, most often in patients that are prone to easy bruising. Most patients do not experience any effects except slight redness, which goes away within 24 hours. Some clients go straight back to their daily routine when they leave my office with no one the wiser. You may apply makeup after your treatment as long as you are careful not to rub the sites where the dermal filler was injected.

If you are unhappy with your appearance and have been dreaming about a new, younger looking and rejuvenated appearance, make an appointment to see me in my office. I know you’ll be happy with your results.
