Specialized Joint & Soft Tissue Care

“Specialized joint and soft tissue care focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions affecting muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints using a combination of conservative therapies, diagnostic evaluations, and interventional procedures. The goal is to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore function through individualized treatment plans that may include injections, regenerative therapies, rehabilitation, and advanced musculoskeletal techniques.”
-Dr. Anatoly Pisman, MD
What is Specialized Joint & Soft Tissue Care?
Specialized joint and soft tissue care is a comprehensive approach to evaluating and treating pain and dysfunction involving the musculoskeletal system. This includes joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and surrounding connective tissues.
Treatment plans are tailored based on the underlying cause of symptoms and may involve non-surgical options designed to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and restore movement. This category often overlaps with other areas such as nerve pain & pinched nerves when symptoms involve both musculoskeletal and neurological components.
Conditions Treated
This type of care addresses a wide range of acute and chronic conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system:
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Tendon injuries and tendinopathies
- Ligament sprains and strains
- Muscle pain and myofascial dysfunction
- Arthritis-related joint degeneration
- Overuse and repetitive strain injuries
In some cases, symptoms may be related to spinal or nerve conditions such as radiculopathy or entrapment syndromes like carpal tunnel syndrome, which may require further evaluation and targeted treatment.
Diagnostic Evaluation
A thorough evaluation is essential to identify the root cause of pain. This may include a physical examination, review of medical history, and diagnostic testing when appropriate.
Tools such as EMG / NCV testing may be used to assess nerve function, while clinical assessment helps determine whether symptoms are primarily joint, soft tissue, or nerve-related.
Treatment Options
Treatment is typically multi-modal and may include a combination of therapies depending on the condition and severity of symptoms.
Interventional Procedures
Minimally invasive procedures may be used to target pain and inflammation directly. These are part of broader interventional procedures and may include:
- Trigger point injections for muscle pain
- Bursa injections for joint inflammation
- Facet joint injections for spine-related pain
- Epidural steroid injections for nerve root inflammation
- Viscosupplementation (gel injections) for joint lubrication
Regenerative Therapies
Regenerative options may be considered to support healing of damaged tissues:
- PRP therapy to promote tissue repair
- Other biologic-based approaches depending on the condition
Rehabilitation and Support
Rehabilitation plays a key role in recovery and long-term outcomes. This may include:
- Physical therapy
- Strengthening and mobility exercises
- Movement retraining and functional restoration
- Supportive devices such as custom bracing (orthotics)
In more complex cases involving mobility challenges, additional services such as orthotics & prosthetics (O&P) and gait analysis & correction may be recommended.
When Specialized Care Is Recommended
Specialized joint and soft tissue care is appropriate when:
- Pain persists despite rest or conservative treatment
- Symptoms limit daily activities or mobility
- There is a suspected injury to muscles, tendons, or ligaments
- Joint inflammation or degeneration is present
- Neurological symptoms overlap with musculoskeletal pain
What to Expect at Your Visit
During your visit, a detailed evaluation will be performed to assess your symptoms, functional limitations, and medical history. Diagnostic testing and physical examination findings will guide the development of a personalized treatment plan.
Your care plan may include a combination of interventional treatments, rehabilitation strategies, and supportive therapies aimed at reducing pain, improving function, and addressing the underlying cause of your condition.
